We often hear parents remark “I could write a book” about all the hilarious things their kids say. But what if the kids were the ones writing? This is what we had in mind for our first ever One Story a Day Writing Contest (2018-2019) for Canadian kids from grades one to eight – and it was a huge success. After many months of tirelessly working from home, we were finally able to launch our second One Story a Day Writing Contest (2021-2022) for first to sixth graders from across the country. Once again, we couldn’t have imagined how many children would jump at the opportunity to see their stories illustrated and published for all of Canada to read.
After the 2018-2019 contest, we decided to publish a new addition to the One Story a Day series—One Story a Day by Kids for Kids. Now in its second edition, we can be certain that including children’s own writing in our collection is a surefire way to encourage other kids to read and write as well. Our One Story a Day project was created to foster a love of reading in children. The contest anthologies go one step further, encouraging young Canadians not only to read daily but to write, write, write.

Cool Facts about the 2021-2022 Contest
The stories we received were as varied as the kids who wrote them. From cats to crayons, from outer space to summer camp, we saw it all in the 350+ submissions we received! We more than doubled the number from 2018-2019 and we are thankful to every child who was brave enough to send us their hard work.
