2024 Writing Contest Results

2024 Writing Contest Results

Once again, DC Canada’s writing contest was an overwhelming success. We blew away our record from previous years with a whopping 557 submissions from kids across the nation. To think that in 2022, we thought 350 was a lot… Boy did our judges have their work cut out for them this time!

Here are some fun facts from the 2024 edition of this fun contest:

  • The word “squirrel” was used 47 times. And “dragon” appeared 126 times!
  • My favourite title: The Turkey Who Survived World War Two (by Josiah from Manitoba)
  • ALL SUBMISSIONS TOGETHER HAD A COMBINED 112,323 WORDS!

It was also interesting to see how many stories were about the importance of friendship, and how many were about bullying. Remember to always be kind!

Here are some stats about our participants:

The school with the most submissions—coming in at 28—was South Kelowna Elementary School in Kelowna, BC. Congratulations! We hope you enjoy your prize.

The next two schools with the most submissions had 20 each. Good work! There were also 54 stories written by homeschooled participants.

Thank you and congrats to all our participants. We are so excited to see what the judges decide in terms of winners (but even if you don’t win, you should be proud of what you wrote) and are itching to start working on the book of stories to publish!
