(Ottawa, ON – April 14, 2016) — Are you ready to meet activist Alexander the Grape and feminist Emooly Murphy? How about witnessing the thrill of a Yukon sled race, or feeling your heart ache for a flock of dispossessed Canada geese as they make their traditional journey to and from their summer home in Canada’s North?
You’ve heard about their escapades and adventures in English. Now it’s time to discover these loveable characters in Canada’s other official language, French.
Local education publisher DC Canada Education Publishing is pleased to announce the debut of lawyer and author Dustin Milligan’s La Charte pour les enfants, the French version of Canadian bestselling series The Charter for Children, on Saturday May 14, 2016 at the main branch of the Ottawa Public Library, in the auditorium, from 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM.
Dustin Milligan first conceived this series when he was a student at the Faculty of Law at McGill University. By combining his love of literature and law, Dustin created a bilingual series of books offering children a basic understanding of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
Suzanne Pierson, a reviewer for Canadian Review of Materials Magazine, said, “Clever, quirky, humorous, informative. It’s hard to beat that combination. Then add in the fact that you need this series, and these books go to the top of the ‘Must Buy’ list.”
La Charte pour les enfants is a 14 book collection of pun-filled adventures. Each book takes place in a different province or territory and is infused with local culture to really bring it to life.
Every book focuses on a unique right, freedom, or responsibility in the Canadian Charter. Some of the topics covered include feminism, equality, acceptance, aboriginal heritage, religion, safety, and discrimination.
